Coronavirus Update: Spring Cocktail Party 2020
The Wake County Committee’s Spring Cocktail Party to benefit the Joel Lane Museum House has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. We welcome any support you can give.
A morsel of genuine history, a thing so rare as to be always valuable.
Dear friends,
It’s customary, this time of year, for the Wake County Committee of the NSCDA to send out an invitation for the Spring Cocktail Party, a fundraiser thrown each year to benefit the Joel Lane Museum House. The Spring Party has become a cherished tradition, and the most important fundraiser of the year in support of JLMH.
Sadly, the novel coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to cancel this year’s party, which had been scheduled for May 6. However, the museum still needs our help—indeed, now more than ever. Because all public operations have been temporarily suspended, the museum must depend wholly on the generosity of donors like us to maintain it through this season of uncertainty.
For this reason, the Spring Party Planning Committee has reached out to our sponsors seeking their support for the museum. We are overwhelmed at the response we’ve received, and we are want to take this opportunity to honor and thank the fifty-six people (and counting!) who have sponsored or donated in response to our appeal! Our sponsors’ names are listed below, with our most heartfelt thanks.
We invite you now to join this effort to support the museum we love. In addition to welcoming donations, we are excited to have a beautiful new painting of the Lane House by Brenda Priest—the first ever depicting the original red that has been restored over the last four months—to give away to the winner of a drawing that will be held May 6. (Details below.)
These are scary times. We are being asked to support many areas of need that are immediate and serious: food, shelter, medical care. We ask only that those in a position to do so consider supporting the Joel Lane Museum House as well.
This is an incredible community, and we are grateful for all of you. Right now, we are stronger together by staying apart, but we look forward with excitement to when we can gather again to celebrate our shared history.
Until then, stay safe, stay well, and stay hopeful.
Plus…
You could win the first ever artist’s depiction of JLMH in its restored red color!
One tradition that we are delighted to be able to honor this year is the Spring Party Drawing. The image above is an original painting in ink and watercolor of the Joel Lane Museum House by Brenda Priest—the very first artist’s rendering of the house in its new red hue. If you wish to purchase tickets for the drawing, they are $10 each, or 3 for $25.
The button above links to a PayPal donation page. Please leave a note with your donation such as “sponsorship,” “donation,” “drawing tickets,” or any combination you like in the memo box provided at checkout, to let us know how to apply it.
Thank you always for your support of the Joel Lane Museum House!
